The Crossing of the Red Sea.

Exodus 14:13-15  (NKJV)
13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
15 And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.

For 430 years God’s people had been in bondage in Egypt. After the death of the firstborn throughout Egypt in the tenth plaque, God’s people were finally released from the grip of Pharaoh (Exodus 12:33). It was estimated that 1.5 to 2 million people of God marched out of Egypt that eventful day. What a glorious sight to see slaves set free! The day of deliverance had arrived; God’s chosen people had been set free from the house of bondage in Egypt.

God led His people through the wilderness by the Red Sea. During the day He went before them in a pillar of cloud, and at night He went before them in a pillar of fire. God had revealed to Moses that Pharaoh would pursue after them. When the Israelites saw the Egyptians marching after them, they feared for their lives.

It was then that Moses said: “Do not be afraid. Standstill, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.  14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

15 And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. 16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea” ( Exodus 14:13-16 NKJV ).

At the Red Sea, God performed a wondrous miracle to deliver His people again from the hands of the Egyptians. The writer of Hebrews in the New Testament (NT) describes the crossing of the Red Sea: “29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned” ( Hebrews 11:29 NKJV ).

As a believer in Jesus Christ, there are many life changing TRUTHS to be found in the account of God’s people crossing the Red Sea. The Bible was written for our learning and growing in the faith. Let us examine some of them.
When Moses and God’s people arrived at the shores of the Red Sea, they could see the Egyptians rapidly approaching behind them. They were fearful and helpless against the army of the Egyptians. The Lord did something unusual or miraculous to save the people. The Lord had kept them apart. In Exodus 14:19-20, 19 And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. 20 So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.”
When Moses came to the Red Sea, he prayed about the problem (obstacle) that God’s people faced with the Red Sea in front and Pharaoh’s army that was pursuing close behind them. His prayer was answered quickly. He was to lift up his rod and stretch forth his hand over the Red Sea, and Israel was to go forward on dry ground through the midst of the sea. A mighty deliverance! God made a way through the sea for His people that day. With God on our side, all things are possible!
Surely God is the SOURCE and CENTER of our Christian faith. We must TRUST Him and take Him at His Word. Let us seek His will and then do what He commands us to do.

When we are surrounded with difficulties and challenges in life and don’t know what to do next, we should fear not and stand still. The restlessness of the human heart often causes us to rush ahead aimlessly and without the Almighty God to guide us. As a fragile human being, we cannot dry up the Red Sea or mountains (obstacles) of our lives or defeat the hosts of Egyptians (enemies) who plague us. We need the Creator God at our side and we must move in tandem with HIM.
The secret of faith is to FEAR NOT and STAND STILL. God will act and deliver His people in His time. Prophet Isaiah said: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles,  they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” ( Isaiah 40:31 NKJV ).

  1. Faith’s SUCCESS is found in GOING FORWARD and in the LORD’S FIGHTING for us (Exodus 14:13-16).
God is great in His Mercy. He opens up the way supernaturally where His people can walk in faith and under His watchful eyes. Faith is the conductor to the supernatural power of God. Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
A.  When God speaks we must go forward. How many people are faithless and discouraged facing some sea of difficulties? They say, “I can’t do this” or “I can’t do that.” No PROGRESS is possible unless God speaks. And God does speak to us in His WORD!
  • To Go forward in PRAYER (Matt 7:7).
  • To Go forward in Christian Stewardship (Matt 3:10).
  • To Go forward in Evangelism and Discipleship (Matt 4:19; Matt 28:19-20).
  • To Go forward in Bible Study and Teaching God’s Word ( 2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Tim 4:2).
  • To Go forward under the Holy Spirit’s leadership and anointing in our lives ( Zechariah 4:6).
B .     When we remember that the battle is the LORD’S, He fights on our behalf. God knows how to fight and win the battle. He can send hail from heaven (Joshua 10:11). The earth opened up and swallowed up the enemies (Numbers 16:31-35). The angel of death can destroy all night ( 2 Kings 19:35 ). He is an AWESOME GOD!

God planned to destroy the Egyptians in the Red sea. When His people stood on the other shore after safely passing through the Red Sea, they were speechless and in awe of His mighty power. The Israelites had done nothing BUT they obeyed God’s commands.
God won the VICTORY. The battle was the Lord’s… and still is today!

  1. Faith’s SONG is UNTO the LORD. He alone is WORTHY!
Exodus 15:1 (NKJV) The Song of Moses  :  Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!
Exodus 15:21 (NKJV)
21 And Miriam answered them:  “Sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!”
There is power in PRAISE to the HOLY ONE of ISRAEL!
A singing Christian is a Victorious Christian. A singing Church is a Growing, Witnessing and Overcoming Church.
Let’s lift our VOICES to the LORD because we have seen His great Salvation and His mighty Deliverance in the nation of Israel at the Red Sea as well as His supernatural deliverance in our personal lives.
Conclusion :

Psalm 115:1 (NKJV), “Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us,
But to Your name give glory…”
1 Corinthians 15:57 (NKJV), “57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 8:37 (NKJV) , “Yet in all these things we are  more  than  conquerors  through Him who loved us.”
Revelation 19:1-2 (KJV)
19 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments…”
Question time:  Do you KNOW this True and Living God? Do you know His mighty power of salvation and deliverance? Do you know of His GREAT LOVE for all of us even though we have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God?
–  Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV) – “38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
His Name is JESUS CHRIST, our LORD and SAVIOR!

God Bless!
