Living the HAPPY Life

Title :  Living the Happy Life

Romans 5:1–11 (NIV)

1  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2  through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

3  Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;

4  perseverance, character; and character, hope.

5  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

6  You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

7  Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.

8  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

 9  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

10  For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

11  Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

INTRODUCTION:

Matthew Perry, popular star of the TV show “Friends”, once said, “I had all this money and fancy cars and beautiful girlfriends, but it wasn’t making me happy.”

I wish I could sit down and share the Word of God with him…especially, the book of Romans with him, because there we find the secret of happiness.

The first three chapters of the book of Romans tells us about our faults and failures, and about God’s answer—justification by grace through faith.

Chapter 4 explains that faith more fully, and then;

Romans 5:1–12 gives the benefits of being saved by grace through faith.

Let’s discover together how we can live a happy life according to the Word of God :

  1. (vv. 1–2) We find Joy in God’s Grace – 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
  1. (vv. 3–5) We can find Joy in Suffering – 3  Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings. NLT 3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials,(How is that possible?) for we know that suffering help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
  1. (vv. 6–8) We find Joy in God’s Love

– NIV –  6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

–  KJV –  6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.  7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.  8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

  1. (vv. 9–10)  We find Joy in God’s Deliverance

NIV – 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

10  For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

  1. And Lastly today…(v. 11) We find Joy being in Christ, being reconciled (brought back) to God.

NIV – 11  Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

NKJV  11  And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

CONCLUSION:

 In Nehemiah 8:10 … Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

The joy of the Lord is our strength—and this is why we should REJOICE always under every  and any situation in life, the good as well as the “not” so good.

True Happiness and Joy is found in the Lord Jesus Christ alone and not in the world. This is the liberating truth found in the BIBLE!

Praise the Lord!

May God give us a heart overflowing with His joy today!
